Dear Tanglers,

I’m never quite sure what to call round tangles on a square tile. Is it a Zendala or not? Any ideas out there?

Anyhow, they’re pretty. And sometimes I like them even better than the Zendalas I do on round tiles.

I wanted to show you this one because I quite like it myself and thought you might enjoy it, too. There’s just nothing better than Renaissance tiles! 🙂

Happy tangling to you!

Zentangle Gems!

Dear Tanglers,

Zentangle-Gems von Anya Lothroplast weekend I finally introduced my very first attempt at drawing Zentangle Gemstones in a blog entry on freudemitzentangle.de (go ahead and take a look – but it’s in German!).

This was one of the tiles:

Gems have been making the rounds of the Zentangle world these last few months. They are beautiful to look at and amazingly easy to do!

Here are some more Gems I did on black tiles:

Patters: Gems, Münz, ‘Nzeppel, Romanancy, Nekton, Paizel

If you would like to give gems a try and are looking for instructions, I can genuinely recommend the e-book by Eni-Oken. She explains in detail how to do two or three versions of the see-through glassy gems. Wonderful step-by-step instructions that guarantee beautiful results!

Also, there is a video tutorial by Norwegian tangler Anki Helgor that is very good for opaque gems. This is also very helpful!

Whether you’ve tried gems before or are just starting, send me your results! I’d love to see them!

Dear Tanglers,

I’ve finally done it! It took me a few weeks (or was it months?), but I’ve finally managed to try out Zentangle’s new Bijou tiles. Bijou tiles are even smaller than the original Zentangle tiles. At only 5 x 5 cm there’s only one thing I can say about them: cute!

And Bijou himself is no less so. Rick and Maria, the founders of Zentangle, tell the story of how they found the little snail crawling up Maria’s suitcase in their hotel on a trip to Paris. He’s since inspired them with his slime-trail-tangles on their front porch. Bijou even has his own website. Continue reading BIJOU!
