Kunst ahoi! Art ahoy!

Okay, so one of the reasons why I’ve posted so little here lately is that I’m writing. And filming. Don’t worry – you’ll read all about it soon!The other reason is that I’ve been preparing for an art show. Zentangle aside, I’ve been working hard to finish a series of pastel paintings I’ve been working on. They will be on exhibit at a cultural festival here in Hamburg, where artists (professionals and amateurs) show their art in shop windows.The preparations have taken a lot of time, and it has all been really exiting! Today I finally hung up my paintings. They will be on display at Tropical Point restaurant in Hamburg-Altona through July 6th. So if you’d like to know what I do when I’m not tangling, here’s a sneak preview.

(The paintings are inspired by photographs I took 11 years ago when I was a Peace Corps volunteer in Cameroon. They show masked dancers of the Bamiléké tribe of Western Cameroon.)

Zentangle mit der Nähmaschine! Zentangle Quilting!

Dear Tanglers,
after what feels like 300 years, I finally managed to get back to my other passion yesterday: quilting! The result was a mixture of tangling and quilting – Zen Quilting!
I quilted one of my favorite tanglepatterns, Shattuck, and was quite amazed at how well it went!
I’m going to give you the step-outs for the paper version for Shattuck some time this week. If your’re interested in the instructions on how to quilt it, please let me know.

gestern habe ich mich nach gefühlten 300 Jahren endlich mal wieder an meine Nähmaschine setzen können. Ich bin nämlich eigentlich leidenschaftliche Quilterin!* Und das Ergebnis war diesmal unter anderem eine Mischung aus Quilten und Tangeln – nämlich Zen Quilten!
Hier habe ich das Tanglemuster Shattuck in einem Quilt umgesetzt. Es hat gar nicht mal so schlecht geklappt! 🙂
Die Anleitung zum Zeichnen von Shattuck bekommt ihr irgendwann diese Woche noch. Sollte jemand an einer Quiltanleitung für Shattuck interessiert sein, lasst es mich wissen.

*Quilten nennt man das Absteppen von fertigen Patchwork-Decken – oft mit Mustern, die Zentangle nicht ganz unähnlich sind.

Projekte, Projekte… / Projects galore!

Meine Güte!

Ist es wirklich schon so lange her, dass ich das letzte Mal gebloggt habe? Ich kann’s kaum glauben. Aber ich habe einen guten Grund: Ich stecke mitten im Aufbau von zwei ganz spannenden Geschichten!

  1. Unter www.zentangle.de wird nächsten Monat meine Zentangle Informationsseite online gehen, mit einer zentralen Liste von CZTs (Zentangle-Trainern) in Deutschland (zur Zeit ist sie noch recht kurz 😉 ) und einem Forum, auf dem ihr euch austauschen könnt. Und da das ganze ja nach was aussehen soll, steckt viel Arbeit darin.
  2. Ich bin kurz davor, meine Bewerbung für die Kunst-Altonale abzuschicken. Die Altonale ist ein großes Kulturfest hier in Hamburg, bei dem unter anderem Künstler ihre Projekte in den Schaufenstern der Fußgängerzone ausstellen können. Da muss ich natürlich dabei sein – mit Zentangle! Ich berichte auf jeden Fall darüber, wenn es im Juni soweit ist.

Aber ich verspreche euch: Innerhalb der nächsten 3 Tage poste ich hier wieder was tolles!

Yikes!

Has it really been that long since my last blog entry? Hard to believe! Though I do have a very good reason. I’m in the middle of two big and exciting projects right now.

  1. The German Zentangle Information page www.zentangle.de will hopefully be ready to go online next month. There will be infos about Zentangle, a list of CZTs in Germany and a Zentangle forum. It’s been loads of work, I can tell you!
  2. I’m almost ready to hand in my application for the Altonale, a big annual art and street art festival here in Hamburg. Among loads of other things, the Altonale gives artists the opportunity to exhibit their art in shop windows in the shopping district. And I will hopefully be a part of it – with Zentangle! I’ll tell you all about it in June, when the Altonale starts.

But I vow to give you some Zentangle goodies here within the next three days!
